Catherine M. Spain joined Alderman & Alderman, LLC as Estate Planning, Probate, and Litigation Counsel.

Attorney Spain earned her Juris Doctor and Certificate of Tax Studies from the University of Connecticut School of Law, following her undergraduate studies at Yale University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in music. While in law school she was a Dean’s Scholar, Lead Articles Editor of the Connecticut Insurance Law Journal, and Legal Intern with the Tax Law Clinic. While in law school, she served as Judicial Intern for the Honorable Alfred V. Covello of the federal United States District Court in Hartford, and as a law clerk for one Connecticut’s most prominent appellate firms. Following law school, Catherine served as Judicial Clerk for the Honorable Douglas S. Lavine of the Connecticut Appellate Court before entering private practice at Robinson & Cole.

A former teacher and Impartial Hearing Officer for the Connecticut Department of Education, Bureau of Special Education, Attorney Spain practices law with an understanding of special needs students, family dynamics, LGBT people and the needs of senior citizens. She has published several decisions as an Impartial Hearing Officer, and her law journal article, “Reasonable Expectations in the Sphere of Liberty,” is considered a Relevant Secondary Source by Thompson Reuters Westlaw. A member of the Connecticut Bar Association House of Delegates, Catherine has worked pro bono for the United States Veterans’ Center in West Haven and the Victims’ Rights Center of Connecticut. She is admitted to practice in all Connecticut state and federal courts.
